I've actually purchased this pocket rocket five times now over the last 12 years. It can get worn down and it has broken a few times on me. My most recent one lasted 3 years before I had to replace it due to part of the bottom getting chipped off, which exposed the battery and made it so that when it got cleaned water got inside. The times before that it just lost its strength over time. This one was eating batteries like crazy; I was using a new battery almost every time because it became half the strength. Regardless of its faults, I'd say that it was well worth the money. It's super easy to use as it only has one speed setting. Sometimes I wished that it had more, but honestly having one speed setting has made it easier to use. You don't have to worry about changing speed or pulse settings midway through and you won't accidentally turn it off by pressing a button. I had an original Doc Johnson pocket rocket that had lasted for years, but I unfortunately misplaced it. It worked amazingly well. So, I decided to buy a replacement here in Feb 2020. It looked different than the original, out of the box, having a smoother vs glossy plastic finish. Also, the bold red lettering was far more washed out than on the original. I figured that they might have just changed the design. During my first use a couple months later, I used it on my neck and shoulders for about 20 minutes, and it seemed to do a similar job as the old one and was working fine. Fast forward to this week (Aug 2020), my second time using it, and within ten minutes I begin to smell an awful burnt plastic smell. Scared me half to death, having it near my face. It was so bad it continued to eminate in the air for several minutes, and the device itself still smells strongly of burnt plastic. I think it's safe to say that it's toast. It's completely unacceptable for this to have broken down so quickly and under such light use. Either this is not an authentic Doc Johnson, they've severely decreased in quality, or I'm very unlucky and received a dud. I would appreciate an explanation and a refund or replacement.
It was louder than I expected, for one. I had another off brand mini massager that I'd had for six months and i loved it. It was quiet and powerful. In fact, someone could walk into the room and not hear it. It broke after ample amounts of use and I finally decided to get the original pocket rocket, which i expected to be better than the off brand. So it is a bit loud, compared to my old one, but it's still a fairly quiet vibrator. People around the house wouldn't hear it, but if they stood outside the door for a few seconds, they could probably notice some sound. The metal nubs aren't pronounced enough for me so i prefer the cap, which doesn't hurt even though the plastic points look slightly intimidating. It has a pretty good battery life and does its job, though really, you're not purchasing an EXTREMELY powerful vibrator. Really I'm biased because I'm comparing it to the hitachi magic wand, which is incredible. Next to that, the pocket rocket is impotent. But if I wait a couple days without using the hitachi, the pocket rocket works just fine, and it's a LOT quieter than the hitachi for sure. Overall, it was a good purchase for the money. It's portable, discrete, and powerful for its size.
